School Council is a group of parents, the principal, a teacher, and community representatives who work together to support and enhance student learning. All NHS parents are members of School Council by virtue of having a child registered in the school. Parents can get involved by sharing ideas in our Facebook group or sending an email to councilchair@newhorizons.ca. The Executive team includes a Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Finance Officer, and Communications Officer. These positions are open to any member as vacancies occur. Following the meeting, The Fundraising Association of New Horizons School (FANHS) will meet–usually around 8pm.
How do Council & FANHS work together?
Each year, School Council identifies funding needs and develops a Funding Allocation plan.
FANHS, meanwhile, organizes a variety of fundraising events throughout the year and reviews the School Council’s Funding Allocation to approve and release funds.
School Council and the Fundraising Association, though distinct and separate entities, together support our teachers and school by engaging parents to participate in building a strong New Horizons community.
For more information about School Council and FANHS see the PARENT RESOURCES drop down menu on the school’s website.
