We are Erin Germsheid and Miranda Lane, your Occupational Therapy (OT) and Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) consultants. We’re excited to embark on our second year of supporting the remarkable students and teachers at New Horizons. Our mission here is to collaborate with teachers and school staff to create an inclusive and enriching learning environment for all students. We appreciate and celebrate the unique strengths that diversity can bring to our classrooms.
Our role at New Horizons is to provide consultation and resources to ensure the needs of every gifted and talented student are met. While we don’t work directly with most students in the classroom, we specialize in collaborating with teachers to craft individualized and class-based programs that challenge and engage students, respecting their unique perspectives.
For parents curious about the school-based services we offer for gifted and talented children, here’s what we can provide:
Occupational Therapy (OT) – Erin:
In our OT services, we focus on helping your child develop the crucial skills required for academic and personal success. I offer strategies for fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-regulation, and executive function skills such as planning, organization, and time management. These skills are essential for maintaining focus, managing advanced coursework, and participating in extracurricular activities while honoring the diverse strengths of our students.
Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) – Miranda:
SLP services go beyond language development; they encompass holistic communication and cognitive skills. I can assist in advanced language and literacy development, social communication, and executive functioning skills. These skills are vital for excelling in complex academic tasks and fostering meaningful connections with peers, all while celebrating the unique abilities within our school community.
We are excited to partner with New Horizons School in your child’s educational journey. Together, we can help them thrive and embrace their full potential while appreciating the diversity within our school community.
Warm Regards,
Erin Germsheid, BSc.OT
Miranda Lane, MSc.SLP, MBA, R.SLP, SLP (C)
